Why the Women’s Center might be Georgetown’s Best Self-Care Secret

If Georgetown is a masterpiece of campus design, then the Women’s Center is the hidden Easter egg you didn’t know you needed. Tucked away in a cozy corner near the student wellness team, and the Oasis Room (aptly named because it’s basically a spa day for your soul), the Women’s Center is the holy grail of self-care. And no, you can’t sit with us – unless, of course, you’re a woman.
Let me set the scene: outside the center, you’re greeted with baskets of fruits. Walk in, you have the complements – water and tissues – everything you need to stay hydrated, nourished, and ready to wipe away a tear or two from that stressful midterm. What you see when you step inside though is a massive common area with long, comfortable sofas sprinkled with cute cushions, paintings on the walls, and a shelf filled with books that radiate femininity and power. Women’s history, health, self-care tips- you name it, it’s there. Need to recharge? (Literally.) There are adaptors for your gadgets. Stationery? Got it. Prayer mat? Laid out. Mirror? Obviously – how else are you supposed to reapply your lip gloss or fix your hijab before stepping out into the world again?
But! There’s more. My favorite parts are the two rooms inside, each with its own vibe. The first is the Lock in room, featuring a huge computer, a whiteboard, an organizer desk, and chairs for your meeting, group study, or casual brainstorming session. The curtains are usually drawn open, letting in just the right amount of daylight to remind you there’s life beyond your to-do list.
And then there’s The Room. The star of the show. The one that gets all the girls. This little haven has a couch disguised as a bed, a blanket, and more pillows than you can count. The lights are dimmed, the vibes are calm, and there’s even a tiny table and a shelf stacked with- you guessed it – booklets and pamphlets all about women. If serenity in Georgetown had an address, it would be here.
The Women’s Center is more than just a space. Think: empowerment, elegance, and a hint of ‘my energy is reserved for what truly matters.’ It’s the kind of place that makes you feel like you can smash the patriarchy and your deadlines. Somewhere you can take a break from the chaos of campus life and just breathe. It’s a reminder of how much thought and care Georgetown and Education City put into creating unique, inclusive spaces. And honestly, it’s one of the many reasons I love this place.
