Amir of Qatar Visits Georgetown University

As part of his Washington D.C. visit, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani visited Georgetown University campus on Thursday, February, 26, 2015, where he was invited to deliver a speech. Speaking before a large audience of students, faculty and staff at Gaston Hall, Georgetown University President, John J. DeGioia delivered the welcoming remarks and introduced His Highness Sheikh Tamim.
The Amir of the State of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, arrived to Washington D.C. on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 for his first official visit to the White House to meet with President Barack Obama. According to the statement issued by the White House Press Secretary, the two leaders discussed political, economic, and security issues of mutual concern to both countries. The meeting was an opportunity for the two countries to further the long-standing partnership along with their shared interest in supporting stability and prosperity in the Middle East.
HH Sheikh Tamim became Amir of Qatar on 25th June 2013, after his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, announced his abdication as leader of the State of Qatar in June 2013. He was appointed as Qatar’s Heir Apparent to the throne on August 5th 2003.
