Qatar Sport Day
Qatar’s National Sport day is a national holiday held annually on the second Tuesday in February, with the main objective of promoting a healthy lifestyle nationwide. Qatar is one of the few countries to dedicate a day for sports, and GU-Q has enthusiastically embraced this holiday through special physical activities and festive programming that combine the objectives of Sports Day with our commitment to Educating the Whole Person through athletics.
Building on the successes of previous years, the University’s Office of Health and Wellness and the University’s Office of Facilities Management plan the day’s events in coordination with sports activities across Education City and beyond. Based on the principles of team building, inclusion, community participation and fun, fitness and health, GU-Q’s participation in National Sport Day is definitely one of the highlights of the national holiday calendar.
A few of the activities in previous years have included:
- A run/walk along Doha’s beautiful palm tree-lined corniche
- Casual games of football
- Barbecue breakfast
- Miniature golf
- Ten-pin bowling
- Croquet
- Tug of war
- Exercise classes
