Palestine Re-Imaged
A Pop-Up Exhibition
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q), in partnership with Qatar Museums (QM), is proud to announce the opening of the Palestine Reimaged digital and physical art exhibition. This thought-provoking exhibit invites viewers to explore a re-interpretation of Palestine’s past through the lens of archival photography, aiming to restore agency to Palestinians in historical narratives often overshadowed by Western colonial perspectives.
The exhibit features prints from over 20 archival photographs of everyday life in Palestine, highlighting activities such as fishing, breadmaking, and olive harvesting—vital aspects of Palestinian culture and society. In addition to these prints, a digital showcase of over 50 images, including those in the physical exhibit, expands the narrative with assets sourced from the Library of Congress American Colony in Jerusalem collection and other prominent archives.
Curated collaboratively by GU-Q faculty and QM archivists, the exhibit is part of a larger initiative to open these archives for educational purposes. This partnership reflects a commitment to fostering scholarly dialogue, deepening academic discourse, and connecting students with museum collections in meaningful ways.
Palestine Reimaged will be on display at the GU-Q campus until September 28, 2024, offering a unique opportunity for visitors to engage with the art and archives that can inspire new dialogues about identity, justice, and representation in the modern world.
The Pop-Up Exhibition will take place in the Atrium at Georgetown University in Qatar.
