When NGOs Refuse Money Towards a Typology and Developing a Database

A man with a neatly trimmed beard and short hair, wearing a gray suit jacket, a light blue dress shirt, and a striped tie. He is looking directly at the camera with a neutral expression, with a blurred, abstract background behind him.

Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are reliant upon donations to operate. Given the regular calls for donations, it might be assumed that NGOs accept all the funds they receive. This is not the case. NGOs can and do use their agency to refuse funding. Yet, almost no research exists to analyze these occurrences. This presentation will present a recently published paper that developed a typology of refusal and the launch of a public database to enable more research in this area of refusing donor funding.

This event will take place in room 0A11 at Georgetown University in Qatar
