About the speakers:
Salim Tamari is the former director of the Institute of Palestinian Studies, the editor of the Jerusalem Quarterly and Hawliyyat al Quds journals, and a sociology professor at Birzeit University. He has authored several works on Palestine, urban culture, political sociology, biography and social history, and the social history of the Eastern Mediterranean.
Zeina Jallad is a legal consultant, researcher, and educator. Her body of work encompasses the fields of international law, human rights, social justice, rule of law, and gender justice. She holds an LL.M from Columbia University and is a member of both the Palestinian Bar Association and the New York City Bar. She was also the recipient of the Palestinian Presidential Golden Medal in 2021.

A Middle East Council on Global Affairs Public Event.
With the World Cup now over, the Middle East Council on Global Affairs in partnership with the Gulf Studies Center at Qatar University is convening a panel to discuss the potential legacies of the tournament, addressing key questions about the event’s political impacts: Is such a major sports event an effective catalyst to draw attention to politics and human rights, and to generate policy reform? How, if at all, has the 2022 World Cup affected relations between Qatar and its neighbors? To what extent have the various political expressions at this World Cup effectively mobilized people and governments in Qatar and the broader MENA region? Should future World Cups, including the 2026 tournament to be hosted by the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, draw a similar level of attention to domestic and regional politics and human rights issues?

The Implications of Information and Communication Technology Proliferation in Kenya for Archiving and Historical Research.
The talk focuses on the increased usage of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) for the preservation of publicly-owned digital records in Kenya. At the moment, and as is the case in other countries in East Africa, the ever- increasing digitisation of daily governmental operations mean that 'born digital' records are being produced at a rate that is far ahead of the development of protocols and systems for their preservation.
About the speaker: Phoebe Musandu is a scholar of African history and an Associate Professor at Georgetown University SFS Qatar.

About the speaker: Usha Natarajan is Edward W. Said Fellow at Columbia University and International Schulich Visiting Scholar at Dalhousie University. Her research is interdisciplinary, utilizing postcolonial and Third World Approaches to International Law (TWAIL) to provide an interrelated understanding of development, environment, migration and conflict. Natarajan was tenured at the American University in Cairo as Associate Professor of International Law and Associate Director of the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies. Prior to that she worked with the United Nations and its agencies in Asia and the Pacific including with UNDP, UNESCO and the World Bank.

Reading in Time: On the Question of Palestine.
Reflecting on a series of photographs and documents from family papers from the injured and resilient Palestinian story, this piece reflects on the reading and writing of history, the connections between the personal and the historical, and the entangled links between the past and the lived present. Exploring the multiple registers of reading, from the mundane to the extraordinary, reveals a temporal spectrum that encompasses uprisings, initiatives, movements, and catastrophes. Through four captions on a photograph, a love letter, a passport, and a death certificate, it explores practices of reading as commitments to, adventures in, and vehicles for time.
About the speaker: Sherene Seikaly is Associate Professor of History at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her book Men of Capital: Scarcity and Economy in Mandate Palestine (Stanford University Press, 2016) explores economy, territory, the home, and the body. Her forthcoming book, From Baltimore to Beirut: On the Question of Palestine tells a global history of capital, slavery, and dispossession. She is co-editor of Journal of Palestine Studies and Jadaliyya.

Written in his own words, this history-making autobiography is Martin Luther King: the mild-mannered, inquisitive child and student who chafed under and eventually rebelled against segregation; the loving husband and father who sought to balance his family's needs with those of a growing, nationwide movement; and the reflective, world-famous leader who was fired by a vision of equality for people everywhere.

The perils and potential of humanitarian intervention are highly debated among political scientists, international lawyers, and civil society professionals.
