Katharine M. Donato holds the Donald G. Herzberg Chair in International Migration and is Director of the Institute for the Study of International Migration in the Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University. Her research

Indian Ocean Working Group presents Discovering Arabian Deco: Early Modern Architecture in Qatar by Architect Ibrahim M. Jaidah. The talk will discuss the architectural journey through the three most significant decades (1950-1970s) of urban development since the discovery of oil.
Ibrahim M. Jaidah is the Group CEO & Chief Architect of Arab Engineering Bureau. He graduated from the University of Oklahoma (USA) in 1988 and has acquired AEB in 1991. Under his leadership, the firm grew from 6 to over 600 highly qualified employees and expanded it's presence with branch offices across Middle East and Southeast Asia. In his professional career, Ibrahim has overseen completion of over 1,600 projects, making AEB one of the influential firms in the region.

Wadie Said is Professor of Law and Dean’s Faculty Fellow at the University of Colorado School of Law. Previously, he was the Miles and Ann Loadholt Professor of Law at the University of South Carolina School of Law, as well as an assistant federal public defender. A member of the American Law Institute, Professor Said teaches courses in Criminal Law and Procedure and Human Rights, and is the author of Crimes of Terror: The Legal and Political Implications of Federal Terrorism Prosecutions (Oxford University Press), as well as many other works dealing with the intersection of criminal law, international law, immigration law, and foreign policy.

Ambassador Androulla Kaminara, GU-Q Distinguished-Diplomat-in-Residence for 2023-2024, is former EU Ambassador to Pakistan. Based on a long career in development cooperation, humanitarian aid, and more recently as ambassador, she will highlight how certain aspects, such as gender and cultural issues, are often overlooked and why these need more attention in order to enhance the efficiency of diplomatic practice. Specific country examples will be used (e.g., Afghanistan, Nigeria).

The Center for International and Regional Studies (CIRS) at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) is hosting the “Afghanistan Regional Symposium: Confronting the Impasse.” The symposium gathers leading experts, scholars, and policymakers in a collective pursuit of exploring and addressing the intricate challenges surrounding Afghanistan and its neighboring region. Since the Taliban regained power in 2021, there has been an unsettling impasse between Afghanistan and the rest of the world. Norman Finkelstein is an American political scientist and activist. His primary fields of research are the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Zionism, and the politics of the Holocaust. He is a graduate of Binghamton University and received his Ph.D. in political science from Princeton University. Finklestein has held faculty positions at Brooklyn College, Rutgers University, Hunter College, New York University, and DePaul University. After leaving DePaul, Finkelstein returned to Brooklyn, where he continues to publish and speak on the Middle East. He is the author of many books that have been translated into 60 foreign editions, including Gaza: An Inquest into its Martyrdom (2018).
