Georgetown Alumni Meet with Classmates and Friends at Suhoor
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) alumni, faculty members, and staff met recently at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in central Doha for a late night meal during the holy month of Ramadan. This year’s event was the first of its kind sponsored by the Georgetown University Alumni Association Board.
With about 70 alumni and faculty members in attendance, the Suhoor attracted graduates from every graduating class from 2009 through 2018, who enjoyed an authentic meal prepared by a Qatari chef.
“It was great to see alumni across many years at our recent event and to provide an opportunity for them to enjoy a typical Qatari Ramadan meal,” said Afsha Kohli, operations manager at the Office of Student Development. “With a growing GU-Q alumni community, we hope to build strong bonds and encourage our graduates to remain connected, and Suhoor is the perfect time because almost all of them are working professionals and the late evening was a suitable time for everyone.”
The gathering, which took place on Tuesday May 29 (14 Ramadan) lasted until the early hours of the morning, created a warm atmosphere for the community to reconnect and network. As part of its Ramadan festivities, GU-Q also hosted its annual community Iftar on Wednesday evening May 30, where staff, students, faculty and their families gathered for a sunset meal.
