Georgetown Expert Weighs in on Why Trump Won US Elections
As the man elected after one of the most contentious and confounding presidential elections in recent history took his place in the White House, a Georgetown University expert hoped to offer an explanation of what happened. At public lecture at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q), Dr. Samuel Potolicchio shared his understanding of the recent U.S. presidential elections.
Potolicchio, who is director of Global and Custom Education at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University, explained why Donald Trump won the race and why Hilary Clinton was defeated. The lecture was held at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25 at GU-Q’s Education City campus.
“The talk will give a scientific breakdown of why Trump pulled off the most stunning ascent in American political history, and forecast what this may mean for the future of politics,” said Potolicchio before the event. “We will also judge the effectiveness of the presidential transition.”
The presentation was informed by the questions Potolicchio has received from audiences while traveling abroad and lecturing on the topic in China, Russia, Brazil, and Italy. It also included commentary on the newly-appointed president’s cabinet decisions and the start of his term of office.
The scholar, who specializes in political and social communications, holds a Ph.D. from Georgetown University and has served as the president of the Preparing Global Leaders Foundation, a leadership training program for rising leaders from over 100 countries.
