Georgetown Holds Project Management Training for Employees
In a bid to help staff and faculty deal with competing deadlines and multiple tasks in their day-to-day work, Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) recently hosted a free on-site course. Titled ‘Fundamentals of Project Management’, the three day long training session was open to any interested employees.
Led by Human Network International’s Paul Campbell, the course allowed approximately 18 GU-Q staff and faculty members from a range of departments and levels of expertise to convene to learn the principles of effective project management.
At the closing stage of the training, Hadeel Salameh, communications and human resources administrative coordinator at GU-Q, was presented with an ‘Oscar’ by Campbell for her enthusiastic participation and excellent contributions throughout the duration of the course.
She said she appreciated how the course allowed staff and faculty members with varying scopes of work to learn skills that were relevant to all. These included working with team members with different communication styles, how to listen effectively, how to start large projects, and how to formulate alternative solutions to a problem.
“It was a good opportunity to learn from people of different levels, and learn how they deal with different projects,” said Salameh.
The project management course was one of multiple training and development opportunities offered to GU-Q staff and faculty members. In addition to free or discounted formal education such as degrees or short courses for qualifying employees, staff and faculty are encouraged to engage in training opportunities to supplement their daily work for the University.
