Georgetown Hosts ‘Welcome to the Neighborhood’ Alumni Event
Alumni, senior students, and members of the Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) community recently gathered for an evening of catch ups and networking as part of the ‘Welcome to the Neighborhood’ event. The occasion brought together graduates from the University and Georgetown’s main campus in Washington, D.C. to meet with GU-Q’s new dean, Dr. Ahmad Dallal.
This year’s meetup was open to all alumni in the Gulf region, and was attended by a mix of recent graduates and members of a number of GU-Q’s early classes, including some the first students to graduate from GU-Q in 2009.
“‘Welcome to the Neighborhood’ is an annual event for Georgetown alumni, with gatherings hosted across the world,” said Office of Student Development Operations Manager Afsha Kohli. “It was great to see alumni across many graduation years at our recent gathering and to provide an opportunity for them to meet with our new dean. With a growing GU-Q alumni community, we hope to build strong bonds and encourage our graduates to remain engaged with their alma mater through collaborative initiatives.”
The alumni in attendance now work in a wide range of industries, from communications to education, energy, and public service. To date, some 389 students from 51 nationalities have graduated from GU-Q since the University opened its doors in 2005.
The ‘Welcome to the Neighborhood’ gathering is one of a number of opportunities for GU-Q alumni to meet and keep in touch with their peers. If follows the annual Alumni Suhoor, which is held during Ramadan each year and brings the community together to share a meal during the holy month.
