The Georgetown University Alumni Association of Doha (GUAAD) Brings Hoyas Home
The Georgetown University Alumni Association of Doha (GUAAD) hosted a “Bringing Hoyas Home” event on January 30th, 2019, for an evening of fun, friendship, and sizzling barbecue. Alumni Association co-president and grilling legend Mark Saliba (Class of 2009) treated everyone to his secret made-from-scratch barbecue recipe, with co-president Shahan Sahsuvaroglu (Class of 2013), fellow alumni and senior students lending a hand to serve hamburgers and hot dogs to around 100 hungry faculty, staff, and alumni guests. GUAAD board members also organized games throughout the evening that inspired friendly competition and got everyone moving.
This was the second “Bringing Home Hoyas” barbecue, an annual event that provides alumni in Qatar an opportunity to visit their alma mater, meet new alumni, welcome seniors as rising alumni, and catch up with faculty and staff. It was co-hosted by the Senior Class Committee, the Office of Student Development, and the Office of Career Development.
Since the first graduating class of 2009, GU-Q alumni have pursued successful careers in a range of industries, including the oil and gas sectors, communication, international affairs, education and research, and more. GUAAD, which recently celebrated the ten year anniversary of GU-Q’s first graduating class and membership into the alumni community, organizes several social events, networking opportunities and professional development courses for alumni throughout the year through the Office of Student Development.
