Georgetown University in Qatar Celebrates President’s Award Winner
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) employee Omar Al Swadi was recently honored with a President’s Excellence Award by Georgetown University President John J. DeGioia. The awards recognize Georgetown staff and faculty who have made outstanding contributions to the community, both in Qatar and at the University’s Main Campus in Washington, D.C.
Al Swadi, who is the immigration and government relations manager at GU-Q, was one of 14 individual recipients recognized at a recent awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. The awards, which aim to celebrate those who have demonstrated outstanding service and modeled excellence through their exceptional level of performance and engagement, are held annually.
In recognition of Al Swadi’s achievement, GU-Q staff and faculty gathered for a celebratory tea in his honor upon his return to Doha. They shared stories of Al Swadi’s commitment to the welfare of the community, dedication to his work, and the contribution he has made to GU-Q students, faculty and staff.
Recipients of the President’s Award are selected after calls for nominations, which are open to all employees. These nominations are then reviewed by an advisory committee comprised of representatives of all Georgetown University campuses, who then recommend winners to the President.
