Georgetown University Organizes Young Leaders Seminar

Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service (SFS-Q) has organized a Young Leader’s Summit featuring emerging youth leaders from around the region as well as experts from a broad range of industries, scheduled to take place from the 20th – 23rd of April on the university campus.

Uniting youth visionaries, the three day seminar aims to empower participants through a variety of lectures, workshops, round table sessions, and group exercises. Individuals will examine the most pressing global trends and the international issues which affect them.

The event will also play host to a number of professionals across a broad range of industries. The young leaders will be given the opportunity to learn from and interactive with the experts within their chosen field of specialty. Amongst this year’s edition speakers include Ghida Fakhry, presenter of the documentary Witness and a primary broadcaster at Al Jazeera English News, Ashish Kothari, environmentalist who is currently chair of the board of Greenpeace India, Katherine Marshall, senior fellow at Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, and Jean-Michel Monod, a regional delegate for North Africa at the International Committee of the Red Cross.

The weekend will also feature a welcome dinner on Saturday night to allow business and community leaders to meet and welcome these young leaders to Doha. The evening will feature a keynote address by Akbar Al Baker, the CEO of Qatar Airways.

The Middle East and North Africa and countries within the surrounding region are in the midst of dynamic political and economic change. Major themes that will be explored during the three day workshop include: the challenges and opportunities of the Arab Spring; building sustainable, competitive economies; global issues including the environment, health, food security, and population; the influence of new and traditional media on international affairs; the rise of new economic powers and their impact on the global economy, international development, and world-wide energy resources; and non-state actors and foreign policy.
