Georgetown University Qatar (GU-Q) will host an Admissions Open House, today, Wednesday, November 13, 2013 from 5pm – 7pm, at the Georgetown Building in Education City. For students considering enrolling at GU-Q in Fall 2014 and beyond, the Open House provides a convenient and invaluable opportunity to learn about the university’s academic programs and offerings, student services, financial aid, residence life, co-curricular programs, as well as the admissions process, and admissions-related activities and workshops available throughout the year.
The Open House will also highlight GU-Q’s expanding academic horizon with the addition of new major offerings and a broader dedicated faculty base. In addition to International Politics, International Economics and Culture & Politics, GU-Q recently launched the International History major. Moreover, along with the Certificate in Arab and Regional Studies and the Certificate in American Studies , GU-Q now offers a certificate in Media and Politics, a joint initiative with Northwestern University Qatar (NU-Q). The Qatar campus of Georgetown University offers students a four-year liberal arts degree through the same internationally ranked foreign affairs curriculum that is offered at the main Georgetown Campus in Washington D.C., founded in 1789.
The Admissions Open House will begin with a welcome address followed by presentations providing a detailed guide to the admissions process, a snapshot of student life, and a walk-through of the curriculum offered at the university. Furthermore, the program will also include an overview of the diverse career options and support available to students after graduation. Booth time will follow, giving students and parents the opportunity to talk to representatives from the Georgetown community, including GU-Q students, alumni, faculty, staff, as well as admissions officers. Parents are encouraged to attend the event to explore financial aid opportunities and academic services offered to students, as well as to tour Georgetown’s state-of-the-art campus.Students can also find more information on the upcoming Essay Writing Workshops , scheduled for December, January and February. The workshops provide students with guidelines for writing the personal statement and the essay on a current global issue, both required for a complete admissions application. The workshops demonstrate tips on drafting and polishing their essays — essential in an increasingly competitive admissions process.
As Joseph Hernandez, Director of Admissions said, “It’s that time of year again when students are making their final considerations for the next steps in their educational career. The Open House is a great opportunity to meet directly with the GU-Q community to ask questions, and to get a clear understanding of the admissions process, and university life.”
Reflecting on the recent expansion at GU-Q, he added, “This University is not only growing in the number and diversity of students and faculty members, but we are also strengthening our academic reach, and expanding our research activities to contribute to a Qatar that is expanding and developing as well. I look forward to meeting the future leaders that will shape the path of this development, for the region, and for our world.”
The Admissions Open House is free and open to the public.
