Georgetown Welcomes Class of 2022
Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) welcomed its new class this week with a traditional convocation ceremony at its Education City campus. The event was the culmination of a week of orientation activities designed to prepare the new students for the start of the academic year and introduce them to Georgetown’s values, mission, and campus life.
The University witnessed the largest number of applications in its history this year, with over 460 students applying for a place in the new class, which will graduate in 2022. The 98 students who successfully navigated the competitive admissions process represent 32 nationalities, including 41 Qatari students.
“The new student convocation is an important day – it is when our first year students officially join the Georgetown community,” said GU-Q dean, Dr. Ahmad Dallal. “This week is remarkable for us as we’ve had the largest class of applicants in our 13 year history; the entire community of students, staff and faculty has worked very hard to make the beginning of the school year memorable for the incoming Class of 2022. Shortly, they will begin their academic program, and become immersed in Georgetown’s vibrant campus life. We wish them great success.”
The new class will pursue GU-Q’s Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree, a unique interdisciplinary program that enables students to tackle pressing global issues by helping them develop their critical thinking, analysis, and communication skills in an international context.
During the four-year undergraduate program, students follow the same curriculum as their peers at Georgetown’s campus in Washington, D.C. They benefit from the unique facilities available at GU-Q’s world class Education City campus, small class sizes, and interactions with peers from more than 40 different countries.
After they graduate, they will join Georgetown’s diverse alumni community, who now work for leading local and international organizations in industries ranging from finance to energy, diplomacy, education, and media.
