Georgetown Wellness and Counselling Center Receives International Accreditation
Georgetown University in Qatar’s (GU-Q) Student Wellness & Counseling Center (SWCC) was recently accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS), the accreditation association for university and four year college counseling centers.
Georgetown’s center was evaluated for its compliance with IACS Standards – the highest standards available for campus counselling centers – and was found to offer outstanding professional services. Areas assessed include ethical standards, the scope of counseling services, training opportunities and staff qualifications.
The SWCC offers individual, couple, and group counseling sessions, as well as crisis intervention, psychoeducational assessment, and consultation. It serves all enrolled students at Georgetown University in Qatar. More than a third of the student body received personal counseling through the center during the previous academic year.
“This accreditation confirms the level of professionalism and care provided to our students,” said SWCC Director Dr. Mahnaz N. Mousavi. “We are proud to offer counseling, assessments and consultation services that meet the highest standards of care for universities and colleges around the world.”
In addition to the counselling, assessment and consultation services, the SWCC supports a range of on-campus events and programs designed to educate and promote healthy living. These include Stress-Less Week (which helps students manage stress during mid-term and finals weeks), Meditation Mondays (weekly sessions teaching ways to relax and improve students’ ability to focus) and fitness and nutrition programs.
