GU-Q Hoya Selected for 2020 Cohort of Clinton Global Initiative University Leaders
The community service work of GU-Q freshman Kartikeya Uniyal was recently recognized by the Clinton Foundation, which announced his acceptance into this year’s Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U). The prestigious program is dedicated to supporting students committed to working towards solutions to the world’s most critical challenges. Selected students will participate in leadership development, mentorship, skills training, and partnership building throughout the year, with the experience culminating in the CGI U Annual Meeting.
Through the program, Kartikeya will be working on a social impact project that aims to improve local governance in India by using the CGI U platform, in order to fulfill the program’s requirement for a “Commitment to Action” plan.
An international student from New Delhi, India, Kartikeya says his dedication to social change is one of the reasons he applied to GU-Q. “I have always been interested in service to my community, and understanding how I can use my relative privilege to help others. Access to resources like a good education brings with it the responsibility to distribute those benefits to others. I am honored to have a chance to do that through CGI U.”
Former President Bill Clinton and Chelsea Clinton will host the 12th Annual CGI U Meeting at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland on April 17 – 19, 2020, marking the first time the event will be held outside of the United States. The move was recently announced as part of a major expansion of the program. Dedicated students from across the world will come together to learn how to turn their ideas into action at the annual global gathering.
