H.E. Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Speaks at Georgetown
As part of a series of events to commemorate Qatar National Day, Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) and its Al Liwan Qatari Student Club hosted a public lecture by His Excellency Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah.
The talk, held under the theme of ‘The Resiliency of Qatar’s Growth: The Economic Blockade is a Blessing in Disguise’ took place at GU-Q’s campus in Education City.
H.E. Al-Attiyah, who has served in a variety of senior leadership positions within the government of Qatar, has more than 40 years of experience in the energy industry. He is currently the Chairman of the Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Foundation for Energy and Sustainable Development, and has previously served as Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Energy and Industry for Qatar, and Managing Director of Qatar Petroleum.
“I am delighted to join Georgetown University as part of their Qatar National Day celebrations and to share my views about Qatar’s economy and its ability to perform well as usual even in the face of this blockade,” said H.E. Al-Attiyah.
“H.E. Al-Attiyah’s in-depth knowledge of the country and the broader region makes him uniquely capable of addressing the topic of Qatar’s resiliency,” said GU-Q Dean Ahmad Dallal. “We are fortunate to have one of the pillars of Qatar’s society and economy join us to share his expertise and insight.”
As the main Qatar National Day celebrations take place over the University’s winter break, students at GU-Q organize their festivities earlier each year so that they can contribute. Al-Attiyah’s lecture is the first of a series of events, and was followed by the Al Liwan Club’s National Day fair. This vibrant event brings the Education City community and members of the public together to celebrate Qatari culture and heritage with traditional food, poetry, music, and activities.
