João Gabriel Rabello Sodré is a PhD candidate in History. His dissertation explores the formation of identities during the last decade of Brazil’s military dictatorship (1975–1985), examining themes such as racial justice, gender, urban development, and religious dynamics. João has also contributed scholarly work on the Valongo Wharf in Rio de Janeiro and the memory of dictatorships in Argentina and Chile. João will teach History Focus: Rio de Janeiro, an introductory course on Brazilian and Latin American history, highlighting historical methodologies and nontraditional sources. João’s GU-Q faculty mentor is Waleed Ziad.
