Faculty Development Fund (FDF)

All full-time faculty members at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) will be automatically allocated a Faculty Development Fund of $20,000 at the start of each calendar year. Faculty from the DC Campus, Visiting Faculty, and GU-Q Postdoctoral Fellows are also eligible for this fund, with prorated awards if their tenure at GU-Q is only for a semester. If a faculty member’s tenure begins mid-calendar year, their FDF allocation will be prorated accordingly.

The award cycle for this fund runs from January 1 to December 31. All recipients are required to submit a 500- to 800-word report detailing how the funds were utilized by December 1 of each calendar year. Failure to submit this report, or insufficient justification for the use of funds, may result in ineligibility for future awards.

The funding is versatile and can be applied to a wide range of activities, including conference travel, professional development, workshops, fieldwork, data set purchases, and research support, all in line with university policies and procedures. For detailed information, please refer to the Faculty Development Guidelines.

In exceptional circumstances, faculty members may apply for up to an additional $5,000 if their allocated funds are exhausted during the year. This additional funding is intended for unanticipated expenses in extraordinary situations and is awarded at the discretion of the Dean. Requests for additional funds must be submitted in writing to the Faculty Chair and the Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs. These requests will be reviewed, and a recommendation will be made to the Dean for final approval.

50% of unused funds may be rolled over into the following year with approval from the Office of the Dean.
