U.S. Ambassador Meets with Georgetown Students
Fourteen Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q) and Northwestern University in Qatar students recently took part in a question and answer session with His Excellency William Grant, interim U.S. ambassador to Qatar.
The student round table discussion focused on foreign policy and diplomatic trends in the region, and was an opportunity for students to meet the new ambassador during his tour of Education City. They were welcomed by Dean Ahmad Dallal, who recognized the U.S. embassy’s continuing relationship with GU-Q.
A number of the participants in the discussion were third and fourth year students who are working (or have previously worked) at the embassy as part of GU-Q’s academic internship program. This program gives students university credit in exchange for substantive work for 10-15 hours per week at select partner organizations, including the U.S. embassy in Qatar. Some 15 GU-Q students have interned at the embassy since Fall 2014.
The academic internship program is one of a number of applied and experiential learning programs available for students at GU-Q. It aims to provide students with additional context for their classroom learning, allowing for a deeper understanding of concepts they are introduced to in their studies.
While working at the embassy, students are involved in projects that may include research, economic and political report writing, analysis of international issues, visit support for U.S. delegations, and event planning support.
