Zain Assaf is a Student Development Officer in the Office of Student Life at Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). She fosters students’ growth beyond the classroom through diverse programming that builds community and supports a culturally rich student body. Zain leads the ESCAPE program, a first-year Georgetown tradition focused on reflection and connection, and co-leads the DC-Doha Dialogue program, which bridges Georgetown campuses to facilitate meaningful discussions on social justice. She runs the Foundations for Social Justice Program, an 8-month initiative exploring social justice with an experiential service component that connects learning to practice. Additionally, she advises student organizations, spearheads grassroots efforts like Solidarity Night, and organizes the First Sundays Grill Out, a cherished tradition that strengthens connections across the university community.
Zain’s passion lies in advancing social justice and empowering students to take the lead in grassroots initiatives that foster reflection and solidarity. Prior to joining GU-Q, Zain worked as Engagement Producer at Al Jazeera Media Network, where she contributed to creating meaningful and impactful content and expanding Al Jazeera’s digital presence.
Zain is a proud Georgetown alum, having graduated from GU-Q with a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service, majoring in Culture and Politics with a minor in History. During her time as an undergraduate, Zain received several awards, including the Culture and Politics Outstanding Student Award and the Certificate in Media and Politics Award. She also earned a Certificate in Media and Politics, jointly offered by GU-Q and Northwestern University in Qatar. As a recent graduate, Zain serves as a bridge between current students and the administration, bringing a fresh perspective to her work while upholding Georgetown’s values of community, inclusion, and social engagement.
